Is it true that eating ants is good for you?

No horsing around.

Yes, it’s definitely true.  Especially with bacon. Read the rest of this entry »

Is it true that food colouring will not dye milk until it is stirred in?

I once read that if you put a few drops of food colouring in milk it sinks to the bottom and stays there until the milk is moved (then it spreads through the milk to make it another colour). It’s never worked for me, is that because it was false or is there a way to make it work?

The theory is good, but in practice it only works with food colouring that is blue. Read the rest of this entry »

5 Things You Never Knew About Snow

Those among you in the Great British isles this weekend will probably have some fairly strong opinions about snow. But although the BBC News site is saturated with articles about the effect on life, limb and liberty, there are certain things they won’t have covered. Read the rest of this entry »

What is the Illuminati, and when did they start?

There is a perennial curiousness about secretive orders and organisations, the Freemasons being the other major subject of scrutiny.  But who are they and where did they come from? Read the rest of this entry »

Have cats taken over the world, but we just don’t know it yet?

Cats have it easy, don’t they?  They get fed.  They get petted.  They get their photos plastered all over the internets for everyone to lol at.  Should we finally own up to the fact that cats are in charge of it all?  They certainly seem to rule the internet.

Do ants poop?

Ants are so tiny, and their little segmented bodies joined together by next-to-nothing. It’s hard to imagine digestive tracts running down through the length of an ant. But surely everything that lives must eat and excrete – that’s at the core definition of life. However, there’s more to an ant than meets the eye.

What *has* love got to do with it?

The amount that love has got to do with it is the same amount as what war is good for: ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

Love, in fact, if you want to take the metaphysical view of things, doesn’t even exist.  It is a series of chemicals and electrical impulses delivered between your neurons which make you imagine you feel something rather akin to the delicious, juicy steak Cypher eats when he asks to be reinserted into the Matrix.  Ignorance is, truly, bliss.  And also rather easy to fake.

What would happen if you ate a cloud?

In case you missed it, I’ve already documented the makeup of clouds when describing how they harvest helium.  The TL;DR version is that helium rises from natural gas in the earth and forms clouds by supporting the water in the atmosphere, so clouds are mostly helium, water, and a little unbound hydrogen and oxygen.  We can work out what effect it would have to eat this. What is the secret of time-travel?

There are things that we, as humans, find difficult to comprehend.  We live only finite lives, and our little life is rounded with a sleep.  As a result, it is extremely difficult for us to comprehend the full extent and meaning of infinity… The first question we come out with is, “But what came before the beginning?”  We have no experience or understanding of things that don’t have to start somewhere and struggle to come to terms with it (without the use of illegal narcotics or possibly decades of isolated meditation).
